Can spinal decompression physiotherapy fix a herniated disc?

Spinal decompression cannot be guaranteed to fix or permanently reverse a herniated disc. It may help some patients manage symptoms when it is clinically appropriate and combined with active rehabilitation.

Is spinal decompression covered by OHIP?

Government-funded physiotherapy is available to eligible Ontario patients through participating programs. Coverage does not automatically include every spinal decompression service. Confirm your eligibility and the services covered directly with the clinic.

How many spinal decompression sessions will I need?

There is no universal number. Recommendations depend on your symptoms, health history, functional limitations and response to treatment. Progress should be reassessed before additional sessions are recommended.

Do I need an MRI before physiotherapy for a herniated disc?

Not every patient needs an MRI before starting physiotherapy. Your physiotherapist can assess your symptoms and determine whether further medical investigation or imaging should be discussed with a physician.

Do I need a physician’s referral for Oakville spinal decompression?

A physician’s referral is generally not required to book private physiotherapy in Ontario. However, your extended-health insurer may require a referral before reimbursing treatment, so review your individual plan.
